Marks & Spencer is trialling a two dimensional barcode - the QR (Quick Response) code - on its Food to Go freshly squeezed juices, according to trade press reports. The barcode is printed directly onto packaging and can be scanned using a mobile phone camera. The customer is then directed to a mobile website with information on the products and a voucher code to claim a discount on their next purchase of the juice.
An M&S spokesperson was quoted: "We're trialling QR codes as an innovative new way to communicate with our customers. As this stage it's only on our Food to Go freshly squeezed juices."
